The products of three dairy factories have been contaminated with melamine, a toxic substance used to increase the apparent protein content of dairy products.
The products of the three factories have immediately been removed from supermarket shelves. The three factories blame their milk powder suppliers. Just after the 2008 Olympics, tens of thousands of Chinese children fell ill after drinking melamine contaminated formula. Six of the children died. Twenty-one people were convicted for their role in the scandal, with two of the accused convicted to death and executed.
