China's authorities appear to be blocking news about a corruption probe being conducted in Namibia into a company linked to the son of President Hu Jintao. State media are making no mention of the case, while internet sites commenting on it appear to be down.
Two Namibians and a Chinese national were arrested last week in Namibia as part of an investigation into bribery allegations involving Nuctech, a firm headed until last year by Mr Hu's 38-year-old son, Hu Haifeng. The three were arrested after it was discovered that nearly 13 million dollars intended as a down payment on high-tech security equipment were diverted to buy luxury cars and homes. Mr Hu Haifeng currently holds a top post at a Tsinghua Holdings, which controls Nuctech. A court in Namibia has postponed until next week a ruling on whether to release the three suspects on bail.
