A man who cut the throat of a 12-year old girl has been sentenced to 20 years in jail.
The 49-year-old convict is the ex-partner of the girl's mother. He killed the girl, Robiënna, in the home of her mother, who later declared that the killing was intentional. The man has consistently denied this, saying the girl's death was an accident.
The Amsterdam court judged that murder was proven beyond all reasonable doubt. It rejected the prosecutor's demand for a 25-year sentence, reducing it to 20 because an attempt to kill the girl's mother, of which the man had also been accused, could not be proven.
