It was once a thriving mining community in the heat of Pennsylvania’s coal region, but Centralia in Pennsylvania is now a ghost town. A small fire in an abandoned mine shaft more than 50 years ago spread to untapped coal seams and has set an area the size of Lower Manhattan below the town alight.
