The Dutch "Cash for Clunkers" scheme has been used by 62,000 car owners wanting to trade in their old vehicle in return for a subsidy on a new one. The Transport Ministry said it had checked whether everything had been done by the rules, and reported it had found only 30 cases of fraud.
The scheme was introduced in May 2009 in an attempt to stimulate the European car industry in the wake of the financial crisis. Owners of old cars could qualify for subsidies of up to 1000 euros if they had their car scrapped and purchased a new one, preferably of an environmentally friendlier type. Vans even yielded the owner 1750 euros.
The government set aside 85 million euros for the scheme, which will stop by the end of this year, or earlier if the money runs out.

Some say this program was a success since many people got the chance to renew their cars through it while other say that "cash for clunkers" was a huge waste since mane still perfectly functional cars have been destroyed. Now I am thinking to make an acquisition at used cars Harrisburg, I am not eligible for the program yet and used cars can be really affordable if you know where to look to.
