Calls for local poll recount in The Hague

Published on 10 March 2010 - 5:16pm
More about:

The Dutch populist Freedom Party (PVV) is calling for an inquiry into last week's local elections in The Hague.

The PVV says YouTube footage shows irregularities including more than one person entering polling booths at the same time and a voter not putting the ballot in the box.

The Freedom Party, which is led by anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders, was runner up to Labour (PvdA) in The Hague by two seats.

On Tuesday, Rotterdam's Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb decided to request a recount of all the local election votes in the city. His move followed allegations of irregularities in the poll.
