A truck-driving ban on Sundays should apply Europe-wide, Christian Union MEP Peter van Dalen has said.
A general Sunday ban would put an end to the current patchwork of national rules. It would also promote Sunday rest, he added.
A Sunday truck ban is already in force on Germany's roads, while other EU members have bans on other days and holidays.
The small fundamentalist Christian Union is a junior member of the governing three-party coalition in the Netherlands. In the European Parliament, its only MP Peter van Dalen has joined the Eurosceptic and anti-federalist group of European Conservatives and Reformists.
