A court in Amsterdam has rejected a request by RTL television to publish cabinet minutes dealing with Dutch support to the Iraq invasion. The RTL News programme had asked for the documents, but Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende refused to hand them over.
RTL had demanded the right to see the minutes on the grounds of the Public Information Act, with a view to gaining an insight into why the Dutch government decided in 2003 to support the British-American invasion of Iraq. The Dutch only lent political support and did not send any troops.
