An Israeli human rights organisation says the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has left almost 8,900 people dead over the last 20 years.
B'Tselem says 7,398 of the victims, including 1,537 minors, were Palestinian. The human rights group says 1,483 Israelis, 139 of them minors, died during the same period. Of these, 488 were members of the security forces and 995 were civilians.
2009 was by far the bloodiest year for the Palestinians; 1033 were killed, including 355 minors. Most of them died during Israel's assault on the Gaza Strip in January. 2002, during the second intifada, was the deadliest year for Israel. B'Tselem says 420 Israelis, 151 of them soldiers, were killed in that year.
The report was published to coincide with B'Tselem's 20th anniversary.
