The British prime minister, Gordon Brown, says his country is emerging from the recession.
Speaking to the BBC, he said the development was the result of the measures taken by his government and the country's central bank. Late last year, the British government approved a rescue plan worth dozens of billions of pounds. It also nationalised a number of ailing banks. The British economy is expected to shrink this year by three percent. It would mark Britain's deepest recession since World War II. The economy has been badly hit by the slump in the real estate market and the rapidly growing unemployment.
