In London, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has told a meeting of the Group of Twenty (G-20) finance ministers and central bank governors that despite tentative signs of a recovery it would be a "serious mistake" for wealthy nations to scale back plans to boost the global economy.
Among the topics dealt with at the meeting, which began yesterday evening and concludes today, is the issue of bankers' bonuses. France and Germany have proposed caps on bonuses.
However, the United States and Great Britain say a cap would be "unenforceable". French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde says public opinion is "horrified" by the amount of compensation paid to traders. She says the US and Great Britain do not appear to be serious when it comes to cracking down on bankers' bonuses.
