British couple's hijacked yacht found empty

Published on 29 October 2009 - 2:07pm
More about:

A yacht belonging to a missing British couple has been found empty close to the coast of Somalia. Paul and Rachel Chandler aged 58 and 55 have been kidnapped by Somali pirates.

The couple were sailing from the Seychelles to Tanzania and sent out a distress signal on Friday. The pirates have now taken them to a hijacked container vessel from Singapore.

Another ship has since been hijacked by pirates in the region. It is thought to be a fishing boat sailing under the Thai flag with 25 people on board. Local authorities say the boat is heading towards the coast of Somalia.
