British children ignorant about World War II

Published on 6 November 2009 - 4:43pm
More about:

A survey conducted by a British veterans' organisation shows that many children know little about World War II.

The organisation, Erksine, which questioned children between the ages of nine and 15, found that one in five of them confuse Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels with Anne Frank, the Jewish girl who wrote her Diary while hiding in Amsterdam. Fifteen percent of the children think that Auschwitz, the concentration camp where the Nazis killed over one million people, most of them Jewish, is a theme park about World War II. Five percent think that Adolf Hitler was a German football coach. Seventy percent of the schoolchildren questioned were, however, eager to learn more about World War II.
