Babies all over the world are breast fed. Sometimes mothers breastfeed their babies because they believe it is better, sometimes babies are breastfed because there is no other option and sometimes it's just because babies have always been breastfed. Scientists cannot agree on whether breast milk is better than formula, and it's an issue that divides idealists as well.
Here in the Netherlands one sees babies being breastfed in public more and more often. One of the main reasons is because more and more women are working outside the home. Many employers are providing special rooms so mothers can feed their babies. A working woman's schedule is a busy one and mothers and babies are not always in the same part of the building. What is the situation like in the rest of the world?
The first of August marks the start of World Breastfeeding Week, a campaign started by a lobby group promoting breastfeeding.
We'd like you to send us photographs of babies being breastfed - it's something that happens all over the world. Send your photographs and a short explanatory text before Wednesday 29 July 2009 to
Thank you!
