The Brazilian government announced on Tuesday that the country’s gross domestic product fell 0.8 percent in the first quarter of 2009.
The worldwide recession has led to a steep decline in the demand for such Brazilian export products as iron ore and steel. Brazil is one of the world’s rising economies and has, until now, suffered little from the global financial crisis.
