Bongo sworn in as Gabon president

Published on 16 October 2009 - 5:24pm
More about:

Ali Ben Bongo has been sworn in as Gabon's new president.

The son of the late President Omar Bongo was installed after winning controversial elections in late August, which the opposition denounced as fraudulent. Earlier this week the Constitutional Court dismissed a legal challenge, paving the way for the inauguration in the capital Libreville. The ceremony was attended by several African heads of state, including those of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali and Togo.
