The island administration of Bonaire has written in complaint to Deputy Minister of Kingdom Relationships Ank Bijleveld because she stopped the flow of money to the Dutch Antilles island. Ms Bijleveld believes Bonaire has failed to fulfil its obligations to introduce reforms.
The island was meant to hold a referendum on the future of the island’s relationship with the Netherlands. The status of Bonaire is due to change next year as the island becomes a Dutch municipality rather than fall under the current Dutch Antilles administration.
Bonaire says the deputy minister is meddling in local matters and is trying to influence the outcome of the poll. The island’s administration is also angry that Ms Bijleveld is withholding money earmarked for education and health, which have nothing to do with Bonaire’s new status.

Education is everything. The peach was once a bitter almond; cauliflower is nothing but a cabbage with a college education.
Please don't deny people funds for education and health care, they are so much intertwined.
