A letter from a Dutch bishop about the recent revelations of sexual abuse within Catholic institutions in the Netherlands has been read out during Sunday morning services in dozens of churches throughout the diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam.

In the letter, Bishop Punt of this diocese states that there was something profoundly wrong with the climate in Catholic boarding schools, where priests and other clerics were able to continue molesting children under their care for years. He wrote that all attention must now go to the victims and added that public outrage at the abuse was justified.
