Berlusconi injured after protester's attack

Published on 13 December 2009 - 9:25pm
More about:

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been taken to hospital after being attacked by a 45-year-old man. Mr Berlusconi had just finished addressing a rally of his supporters in a Milan square on Sunday.

The man, who has been arrested, threw a miniature replica of Milan's cathedral at the prime minister hitting him in the face. The Italian leader was taken away by security staff bleeding from his mouth.

There was trouble right from the start of the meeting of the governing PDL party, with Mr Berlusconi heckled by jeering protesters. The demonstrators clashed with the prime minister's security guards.
