Berlusconi to go home tomorrow

Published on 15 December 2009 - 1:08pm
More about:

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is to be discharged from hospital on Wednesday, with orders to rest and halt "important" public activities for two weeks, his doctor said.

The 73-year-old prime minister suffered a broken nose, cuts to his lip and two broken teeth when he was hit in the face with a souvenir model of Milan cathedral after a political rally last Sunday. He also lost a half litre of blood. Doctors say he is eating normally again, but with some difficulty. They added they are somewhat concerned about Mr Berlusconi's morale.

The prime minister's 42-year-old assailant, Massimo Tartaglia, who has a decade-old history of mental illness, has apologised in writing. He added that he acted alone, independent of any military or political group.

Prime Minister Berlusconi has had to cancel plans to attend the United Nations climate summit this week in Copenhagen.

Id say the man was sane enough to walk the streets freely and should be sane enough to stand trial immediately. The Prime minister Berlusconi had his teeth and nose broken, and the criminal writes an I´m sorry note. Yeah right, he is more sorry he got caught.
