Saturday 13 August 2011 marks 50 years since the construction of the Berlin Wall began. The world thinks of the moment when the wall was dismantled in 1989 as a great victory for freedom.
But in various parts of the world, walls that separate people from each other are still standing. They might be there to counter migration, because of a disputed border, or to prevent drugs and arms smuggling.
New walls are still being planned. For example, Greece announced plans in January to build a wall on the border with Turkey to stop illegal immigrants. But, following criticism, Greece announced last month that it would build a moat instead of a wall.
Here are some examples of "Berlin walls" that still exist or are being planned around the world.

The administrative walls around Europe are the highest and most effective of all.Try to attend on short notice a funeral (or terminal ill person)of a family member. The administrative processes are just unreal. Having been to Holland for more than 10 times as a tourist does not make it any easier. The protective walls around Europe are immense!!!
