Berlin’s Dutch embassy stoned by squatters

Published on 1 November 2009 - 9:26pm
More about:

The Dutch embassy in Berlin has been pelted with paint bombs and stones by squatters. They took the action as gesture of solidarity with Dutch squatters.

A ban on squatting passed through the Lower House on 15 October. The ban is due to be introduced in the New Year. The anti-squatting act was an initiative of the Christian Democrats (CDA), the conservative VVD and the Christian Union. It was also supported by the Freedom Party (PVV). Squatters who attempt to occupy empty buildings now risk a year in jail.

Protests also took place at Dutch embassies and consulates in Barcelona, Prague and Vienna.
