Belgium warns of fake police officers

Published on 16 July 2009 - 8:51pm
More about:

Belgian authorities are warning Dutch drivers to be on the lookout for fake police officers on the E411, the motorway from Brussels to Luxembourg.

Three elderly couples that had withdrawn money from banks in Luxembourg have fallen victim to the fake police. The victims were led away from the motorway and then forced to hand over their money. So far, three couples have reported being robbed of a total of 100,000 euros.

Belgian authorities suspect there may have been more victims but that not all of them dare to report the theft because of problems with the origin of their money.
