One of the rioters at a beach party in August has turned himself in to the police. He has been arrested and taken into custody at a police station in Capelle aan den Ijssel, east of Rotterdam.
After police showed photos of ten suspects on a TV programme on Tuesday evening, the man reported to the police. He is one of the people featured in the pictures.
The police have received 31 tips as a result of the programme. Because the phone lines were jammed for some time after the transmission, the police are still expecting to receive many more calls.
On Monday the police arrested two men in connection with the rioting at the party on the beach at Hook of Holland, west of Rotterdam. So far 11 suspects have been arrested, seven of whom are still in custody.
A 19-year-old man was shot dead by police during the rioting at the free Sunset Grooves party, and scores of people were injured. A small group of officers were surrounded and attacked by hooligans. There has been criticism of the police for allegedly deploying too few riot police at the event due to cutbacks, despite tip-offs that hooligans were planning to make trouble.
