Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer was posted to Afghanistan as an undercover agent in 2003. The mission he was given was called Operation Dark Heart. Seven years later when he published his memoirs, the US Department of Defense pulped all 9,500 copies, citing a "threat to national security". But Shaffer believes there was a bigger threat than the Taliban: American military bureaucracy.
