Barack Obama pleased with progress

Published on 28 March 2010 - 10:23pm
More about:

US President Barack Obama is pleased with the progress made by the Afghan government, but he wants to see more done to combat drugs production and corruption.

President Obama met Afghan President Hamid Karzai during a surprise visit to Kabul on Sunday. He has invited President Karzai to the White House in May.

President Obama also spoke with Afghan ministers and NATO commander of the Afghan mission, General Stanley McChrystal. He wanted to know whether the extra troops sent to Afghanistan are having an effect on the fight against the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

It is the first time President Obama has visited Afghanistan. He only stayed a few hours in the country.
