In Myanmar, opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has held a meeting with Western diplomats.
At a government guesthouse, she met with diplomats from the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. A US embassy spokesman said sanctions were discussed, but declined to give details of the meeting.
Last month Ms Suu Kyi wrote to the ruling junta in the former Burma to say she was prepared to cooperate with the regime to have sanctions against the country relaxed. She requested permission to meet Western diplomats.
The opposition leader has spent 14 of the past 20 years under house arrest. In August her house arrest was extended by 18 months.
