Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has met with a cabinet minister of the country's military junta. The meeting is said to have lasted some 45 minutes but nothing has been disclosed as to its contents.
It's thought the meeting could be linked to a letter Ms Suu Kyi sent to junta leader Than Swhe earlier this week explaining what the country needs to do in order to get international sanctions lifted. Until now, the opposition leader, who has been under house arrest for years, had always been in favour of punitive measures against Myanmar's military leadership. Earlier this week there were high-level talks between Myanmar and the United States. After the meeting, Washington said it would only lift its sanctions once democracy had been restored.
