The lawyers of Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi have announced that her appeal against her house arrest has been rejected.
Three weeks ago, she was sentenced to a new term of 18 months of house arrest because of the unannounced visit by a US citizen. The Burmese authorities say the visit violated the terms of her house arrest.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says he suspects the military regime seeks to bar Aung San Suu Kyi from taking part in next year's elections. Her lawyers say they will file an appeal against her house arrest with the Supreme Court.
