The art of getting older

More about:

Wrinkles and eroticism constitute an unusual theme for a photo exhibition, but that's exactly what you'll see in "We shall persevere".

Love Matters

An RNW website about love, sex, relationships and everything in between.

Here you'll find loads of blush-free information to help you improve your sex life and stay healthy and happy.

Rather than the trim bodies of twenty-somethings, Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf shows ladies of a certain age in provocative poses. Although he used to produce such pictures in order to shock the public, Mr Olaf says he no longer has that in mind. He and fellow exhibitor Marrie Bot want to raise the issue of the sexual depiction of the elderly.

Anne Verhoijsen, also in the exhibition, shows less explicit images: photographs of herself at different ages. The organisers of the exhibition say that they want to break down prejudices about aging.

Also showing is a film featuring Dutch personalities speaking about the ageing process. Popular actress Carry Tefsen for instance says: "These artificial hips are fantastic! I'm crisscrossing the stage like the wind."

The exhibition can be seen at Het Dolhuys, the Dutch national psychiatry museum in Haarlem, until 4 March 2012.
