Arrests in Moscow after anti-Kremlin protest

Published on 1 February 2010 - 9:43am
More about:

Police in Moscow have arrested around 100 anti-Kremlin protesters. About 300 marchers planned to convene on a square in Moscow to vent their grievances against Prime Minister Putin and the lack of freedom in Russia.

The march was banned and police cordoned off the square. The arrests were made when the protesters, including former Deputy Prime Minister Boris Nemtsov and other opposition kingpins, went ahead with the protest regardless.

The detainees have now been released, but will appear in court later this week.
