A former judge in Argentina has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for crimes against humanity he committed in the early 1980s.
Victor Brusa was found guilty of eight charges, becoming the first judge to be convicted for his role in the so-called "dirty war" the country's military dictatorship waged between 1979 and 1983, murdering an estimated 30,000 opponents. Five former police officers were given sentences ranging between 19 and 23 years in prison. In 2005, Mr Brusa was sacked as judge for hindering an investigation into a case in which he himself was a suspect. He was arrested in 2005, after the government revoked an amnesty law for "dirty war" crimes.
