A court in Almelo has sentenced Saban B (surname withheld) to another eight years imprisonment on top of the seven and a half years he was sentenced to last year for forcing women into prostitution and other offences.
This time Saban, who is still on the run, was convicted of two counts of attempted murder and one of attempted forced prostitution. The public prosecutor had demanded six years imprisonment. Among the evidence of attempted murder was security camera footage showing him beating up and stabbing two men in May 2006.
Saban B's gang, which included his brother Hasan, reportedly made millions of euros running a large-scale people trafficking operation, which involved forced prostitution in various parts of the Netherlands. The gang members often beat the women, forced them to have abortions and "branded" them with tattoos.
Saban went on the run in September this year after he was granted two days leave, while in custody awaiting trial, in order to visit his newborn child. The judges who granted the leave have since admitted they made an error of judgement.
