André Rieu top-selling musical performer

Published on 10 August 2009 - 7:02pm
More about:

Dutch violinist and conductor André Rieu was, over the past six months, the world's top earning male musician in terms of ticket sales. A report by Billboard Magazine ranks the Dutch performer fourth after Madonna, Tina Turner and Britney Spears.

Mr Rieu's concerts sold 550,000 tickets worth more than 57 million dollars. The list's number one, Madonna, earned 85 million dollars with her concerts. Mr Rieu and his 55-strong orchestra last year toured Japan, Australia, Europe, the United States and Canada performing light classical music amid elaborate staging, often in period costumes.
