Amsterdam city council is launching a scheme to top up a recently introduced government subsidy aimed at encouraging motorists to scrap old polluting cars and buy new greener models.
To support its residents and local businesses, the city is offering an extra sum of between 250 and 1000 euros on top of the 750-euro central government subsidy.
The city will also be introducing a special premium for people who scrap their old car without buying a new one. The bonus for taking a car off the road will be 500 euros for a petrol engine car and 1000 euros for a diesel.
