To fight the segregation of Dutch and immigrant children across schools in Amsterdam a central registration desk needs to be set up. All children will be registered there to look at what school they go to and will be moved to another school if necessary.
These recommendations were presented on Thursday in a report by the Amsterdam Advisory body on Diversity and Integration.
The aim of this central desk is to fight the existence of ‘white’ and ‘black’ schools in Amsterdam. White schools are those populated mainly by native Dutch children while black schools are those with a majority of immigrant students.
Parents can still report their school preference. Efforts will also be made to place immigrant and native Dutch friends in the same school, of their preference.
