Albanian coalition formed two months after poll

Published on 3 September 2009 - 8:33am
More about:

Two months after the parliamentary elections in Albania, Prime Minister Sali Berisha's Democratic Party has formed a coalition with the ILS of former prime minister Ilir Meta.

The ILS will supply ministers for the departments of Foreign Affairs, Health and Economy. The other ministerial posts will be filled by the Democratic party, which won the election.

The coalition deal means Albania's second largest party, the Socialist Party, is in the opposition. The European Commission earlier criticised the Albanian poll. Albania wants to join the European Union.
