The Dutch Lower House of parliament says airlines are failing to inform their clients about compensation rights in case of flight delays or cancellations.

Air travellers are entitled to be paid damages of up to 600 euros, but most of them appear to be unaware of their rights. Many passengers accept a free overnight stay and a meal in an airport hotel as sufficient compensation for their inconvenience.

MPs are urging Transport Minister Camiel Eurlings to take action against the airlines. They say they should be obliged to inform their clients about the refund scheme. Minister Eurlings has also been asked to raise the matter in Brussels, because similar problems occur in other EU member states.
