More than 300 people have died in India from Mexican flu since the outbreak there in May. Some 10,000 people are currently infected with the A(H1N1) virus, a health ministry statement has said.
The first fatal case of the flu in India was reported on 3 August. Western Maharashtra state has seen the largest number of fatalities, with 118 deaths from the virus.
According to the World Health Organisation, some 300,000 people worldwide have tested positive for Mexican or swine flu. The A(H1N1) virus has claimed the lives of at least 3,917 people to date.
