Boers, take heart: your cousins are coming to the rescue. Dutch politicians want to help fight discrimination and racially-motivated crimes against South Africa's Afrikaners, the descendents of Dutch and other European settlers. It's an about-face for a country that once championed the struggle against apartheid.
"We are very grateful. This is good news. We know that for a long time the African National Congress had the sympathy of the Dutch government." says farmer Chris van Zyl, speaking from his home near Pretoria. "But what we are experiencing here is racial discrimination in reverse."

One widely publicised type of violence is attacks against farmers, a large number of whom are of Afrikaner descent.
Statistics from the South African police show that the national murder rate is falling. The Transvaal Agricultural Union figures indicate a drop in farm murders as well.

Racism
The issue of racism is back in the spotlight thanks to Julius Malema, a prominent young ANC politician who was convicted of hate speech last year for singing Kill the Boer, a protest song that became popular during the anti-Apartheid struggle.
Earlier this month, the ANC disciplinary committee suspended Malema from party activity for five years.
The conservative Christian SGP party has put forward a motion asking Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal to help stop discrimination and racially-motivated crimes against the Afrikaners. According to the SGP, Rosenthal has "embraced" the idea, which is also backed by Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party. The Freedom Party has been rallying support for the Boers amid what they call "a genocide" and a mass exodus of Afrikaners from South Africa.
Racial motives
"By our conservative estimate there have been 2,700 attacks on white farmers since 1990," says Van Zyl, assistant general manager of the Pretoria-based Transvaal Agricultural Union. The farmers' group has been keeping statistics on attacks against the Afrikaners for decades. But are these necessarily racially-motivated crimes? "None of the perpetrators are white Europeans," he says.
The move in parliament is a turning point for the Netherlands, which began supporting the anti-apartheid struggle in the 1960s. Bloody repression by the white colonial regime had turned Dutch public opinion against the Afrikaners. The Hague developed ties with the African National Congress (ANC) and relations remained warm after the fall of apartheid in 1994.
Dutch criticism
Bart Luirink, editor-in-chief of ZAM Magazine, believes the SGP move is based on a growing sense of nationalism. Conservative Dutch Christians have always felt a close affinity with the Afrikaners, he says. "The horrors of apartheid meant few people dared to express this." But this has changed, with the influential Freedom Party waving the nationalist banner.
Luirink sees in this shift "a longing for the return of apartheid." He claims the Freedom Party and SGP both back a "Greater Netherlands" ideal, based on blood ties and shared linguistic roots. According to this view, Flemish-speaking Belgians and Afrikaans-speaking South Africans are part of a wider Dutch nation. The international white extremist group Stormfront "has already reacted with enthusiasm," Luirink writes in his blog.
No problem
"The Dutch measure will be hard to explain to the South African government," says Ineke van Kessel, Leiden-based historian and former journalist who covered the anti-apartheid struggle. "Why so much attention for discrimination and violence against Afrikaners when this is not even a major problem?" she asks. Luirink agrees, calling reports of a massive exodus of Boers from South Africa a myth. He expects the move in Dutch parliament to harm ties with the government in Pretoria.
A look at the statistics gathered by the Transvaal Agricultural Union bears them out, at least in terms of violent crime. Violence against white farmers tailed off in recent years and has dropped sharply so far this year, although a number of attacks in recent weeks have grabbed headlines.
ANC excesses
But some white South Africans welcome the sudden attention from their distant "relatives." Author and academic Hermann Giliomee, a sharp critic of the current ANC government, says it is about time European countries put pressure on Pretoria. "Helping to stop discrimination and crime can't be wrong," he says, speaking by telephone from Stellenbosch.
He says help from outside is needed to challenge the overwhelming political dominance of the ANC. And he mentions the draconian "secrecy act" just passed by the South African parliament as an example of the party's excessive power. But even Giliomee doesn't see why discrimination and crimes against Afrikaners are suddenly on the agenda. "There have been some farm attacks in the Western Cape which is a new phenomenon in this area. But overall, I am not aware of a spike in such crimes."
UPDATE - Tuesday, 10:45 p.m. - The Second Chamber of Parliament has rejected the SGP motion which asked the Dutch government to help stop racial discrimination against the Afrikaners in South Africa. Foreign Minister Rosenthal's VVD, the largest party in the ruling coalition, voted against the measure. (R.Chesal)

It's good to address the problems in SA, but you, as a citizen, are part of the solution too. Yet, another humanitarian disaster unfolded that can be placed at the feet of President Mandela and the people that follow him, those who now govern South Africa. The white minority do not only face a daily survival struggle against intimidation and corruption but also physical survival against torture, rape and murder. Genocide Watch warns that there are twelve Ways To Deny A Genocide. The ANC government’s response to accusations of genocide has, been a classic example of the strategy of denial, that it is just crime. The fact that they are responsible for the safety of all citizens seems to be beside the point.
How can I deny thee? Let me count the ways, seems to be first on the agenda, rather than last. Maybe George Orwell had the latter in mind when he said “All political thinking for years past has been vitiated in the same way. People can foresee the future only when it coincides with their own wishes, and the most grossly obvious facts can be ignored when they are unwelcome.”

We do NOT want "apartheid" (discrimination within one sate by one group over another) back. We do NOT want to rule over Blacks, and we do NOT want to be ruled by them.
Crime is never right. And unfortunately South Africa has a real problem with crime. But why so much emphasis on crime committed to whites? The majority of those 15.000+ murders victims a year (see the box next to the article) is black. If the Dutch government thinks it has anything to say about the crime in SA (not sure what Dutch politicians can do about this, but that's another stoty) then please speak about all the crime and not just those 'few' (but therefore not less horrible, don't get me wrong) crimes on Afrikaners.
Let me also say something about the comments below. South African whites make it sound as if their government makes life impossible for them. I've lived in SA and I can guarantee you that, in general, white people are still way better of than black people. The company where I worked was about 50% white, whereas the population is only 10% white. Worse: there were no black people in higher management positions. None! Luckily the SA government is now giving black people opportunities, after 350 years of oppression. And what do the people do who always got everything they wanted? Complain about it. Come on bru, it is time to correct the mistakes from the past. If the governement takes swift action the playing field can be levelled in one generation (let's say 30 years). In 30 years of 'reversed racism' as the Afrikaners like to call it, the mistakes of the previous 350 years can be corrected. But the way it is going now, it might take longer. As I said, whites still get the best jobs, best education and nicest houses. The black population is now getting the same level of education, so that will be sorted in a couple of years. But more needs to be done. For example, there are still thousands of white farmers who haven't given the land back the the rightful owners that their ancestors stole it from. Why not? OK, these white farmers have now also lived there for some time, so maybe they should also be entitled to part of the land, but the biggest share shopuld go to those whose ancestors were burried in that ground, right?

Fact: the whites first met the first black tribes around 1702 - so 1990 - 1702 = 278 years. So whites must be punished when they didn't even know of the existence of black tribes. They must be punished for just setting foot in Africa. So it just shows their level of extreme racism towards whites.
But let me show readers what we are dealing with in South Africa - our greatest problems is education and ignorance about everything especially science and mathematics. Did the whites kill the first black tribes of South Africa when they met? No black tribes did it to themselves. The first major tribe they met was the Xhosa tribe which had over a hundred thousand cattle in the Eastern Cape, an area 168 966 square kilometres. ( 4 times the size of the Netherlands ). This tribe proceeded to slaughter all hundred thousand cattle at once, in the hope that the whites would magically disappear into thin air. Almost all their people starved.

And that is our biggest problem in South Africa: ignorance, the slow pace of intellectual development and education. Our president has withdrawn South Africans from all international competitions of science and mathematics out of sheer embarrassment of their performance.
In 300 years of contact with Europeans, they couldn't even make a success of the world's richest country in terms of natural resources. The value of the Platinum alone in South Africa is worth more than all the oil of Saudi Arabia.
I see that my post has led to a couple of reactions. Mainly from people that are clearly living in the past and suffer from the indoctrination of the former Apartheid regimes. She literally echoes the Apartheid ideolgy of Hendrik Verwoerd (we need to have our own land and black people ("the blacks", as she calls them) should have their own land) and at the same time says: 'We do not want apartheid'. How ignorant can one be? That was the whole idea of Apartheid. Every group his own land, no one rules over the other. Ever heard of the term bantustan or homeland?
She also portrays black people as complete savages and white people as superior human beings who never kill each other. Sure Wilma. Tens of millions of white people slaughtered each other as recently as in the 1940's. We refer to that period as World War II. A few decades earlier there was another 'World War' (white Europeans killing each other is referred to as the whole world being in war) that also saw millions and millions of casualties. Not to mention the many other wars in Europe. (A bit off topic, but not unimportant: Do you know that the borders in Africa were drawn on a drawing table in Germany, at the Berlin conference in 1884-1885, because Europeans where killing each other over ownership of Africa? To restore peace between ever rivalling Europeans, Otto von Bismarck initiated an agreement to give the fighting nations all a piece of the pie.)
The people that accuse me of ignorance show to not know their own history. They even forgot the lies they learned in primary school. The history books of the past said that the history of South Africa started when Jan van Riebeeck arrived in the Cape in 1652. That's been drilled into people's heads. Yet anonymous here (on december 6, at 10.46) claims it was in 1702 that white people saw black people for the first time. "A myth" even dares to claim that the black ancestors arrived in what is now known as SA at the same time as the white ancestors. I can't take this seriously. Go back to school. The San and Khoi have lived there for thousands of years. Even the bantu peoples, who migrated from West Africa to all over the continent, arrived in the south some 1500 years ago.
Anyway. It's good to know a bit of your history but what's more important is to deal with the present. Don't make it so hard for yourself. Be proud of being a South African. Find out that the differences between people with different backgrounds are surprisingly small. Of course, there are differences, but that's actually a nice thing. Embrace it, don't keep fighting it.

There was no trade in black territories. No ships - no international trade, no schools, no education, no laws, no courts, no judges. Warriors were killed if they betrayed their black kings. The black people of South Africa only learned to read and write in 1879 - when the last of the black kings were defeated and they became South African citizens. How many were the Europeans from 1652 to 1800? Tens of thousands. How many black warriors? +-200,000. The whites were oppressed - whites couldn't buy land. They couldn't live in South Africa - the black people declared more than 10 wars against the whites.
The whites came to South Africa because 50% of the country was unoccupied. The country is enormous - just take a drive today from Johannesburg to Cape Town - hundreds of km of wide open spaces - that is how it was 350 years ago. No one lives there. Anyone can live there - anywhere, there is more than enough wide open spaces. From 1652 to 1990 the whites cleared the land of millions of animals, elephants, crocodiles, rhinos and made farms, built highways, the world's 15th largest economy was South Africa. The black people couldn't kill and remove the forests and wild animals with their technology. The white European settlers set the borders of modern South Africa and founded almost all the major cities.
5. Just take the black population today and use the exponential function to determine their numbers in 1800, use the census of the British and Dutch and see how many black people occupied the entire South Africa - 250,000 at most. They could not have occupied more than 30% of the land - they now demand 90% of the land.
KOEN, the land did not belong to the Blacks. The blacks had no sense of ownership, as they were still living in the stone age, by choice. I wish that the Netherlands would take all the Afrikaners home to Europe, and leave everything to the Blacks, so they can starve - because they will not be able to maintain the land.
The land is not returned to them, because food prices will soar. They cannot and will not really farm. My grandfather had to take over the farm at the age of 14 in 1914 when his dad died, and he made a success of it.

Koen, I am trying to make sense of what you are saying but fail to comprehend where you live in South Africa. You are right when you say the black population now gets the same level of education, you neglected to say that the government acknowledged that this same system failed. Those few crimes crimes are daily crimes you also neglected to say. I wish to highlight that you say "worked", you obviously do not work with 50% white co-workers at the moment and that would have been many years ago. If it was recent, I am going to guess you were 2 working there. The only whites who gets the best education are the ones they refer to as the myth that are getting it overseas. These days the ANC has implemented BBE and AA which excludes or makes life very difficult for most young white people to gain opportunities in the workplace. You seem intent on bringing up the past and how to redress it but explain this to the qualified young white youth who are looking for employment and had nothing to do with the evils of apartheid. Two wrongs don't make a right! Already two million whites have left the country taking with them invaluable job skills which SA can ill afford. Unfortunately the blacks have not yet reached the levels required to hold the majority in the private sector and this will take some time. You are not correct in saying whites still get the best jobs as the levels of corruption and nepotism by government policies now ensure that blacks, whether qualified or not, get the best positions. I do agree though that farmers with more than one farm should be forced to accept a payout/sale for the extra farms they have.

This action was expected, as well as shocked me. I expected the failure (vote against), but I did not expect the large number for (68).
The failure of this vote, and the CLAIMED affect it will have on the ANC though, is a laughing matter. It will not have ANY effect on their system at all. In their eyes, during the “Siege against Apartheid”, Holland was an instrument and a supplier / fundraiser (as per most western countries).
This has since been replaced with and by their lifetime friend and arms supplier – France. Less than a year ago, France’s president gave an instruction that NO French based media facility was to publish or distribute ANY information about the genocide or it’s tactics, or the utterances by the ANC and it’s affiliated groups in South Africa.
It took less than one month for Italy to follow suit. Even so far as England is not interested in the problems in South Africa through their in/actions, though has not physically said so.
The few countries who have seen and understood the problem, have opened their doors to the human commodity from South Africa – farmers, thereby leaving all others in the lurch, in a situation where they cannot defend themselves – either politically, legally, physically.

Thank you for your comments. I can see that I have hit a raw nerve with this article and the statistics are a particularly troublesome point. The farm murders stats were provided by Transvaal Agricultural Union, an organization known to be critical of the government. The farmers union says they see a levelling off of attacks in the past three years and quite a dramatic drop in 2011. This does not mean there is no problem, of course. And as has been rightly pointed out by a few respondents, farm attacks are not the only crimes committed against Afrikaners. There are violent crimes in the cities as well. I appreciate all the comments and will do some further investigation. This is apparently a topic which deserves more attention than it has received so far. Thanks again.

Let me tell you Robert Chesal the truth, the absolute truth. There was some injustices in 1900 or something and before that during colonialism. But some of was due to their own black wars. They waged war against the whites for centuries. They didn't want to accept European culture for 300 years. Their black kings oppressed them - forced them not trade with Europeans - they built no ships, no ports, no highways for 300 years - not a single black trade ship existed in 1900. Finally in the 20th century, the saw how wealthy, educated and technologically advanced the whites became and then they wanted to be part of it. The whites then denied them the same rights... Today they say they didn't earn the same wages as whites - but you must remember that the labor market functions upon supply and demand. And that by 1900 - tens of millions of black people were flocking to South Africa for jobs. So that oversupply of unskilled, uneducated labor let to their wages remaining low. 5 million whites surrounded by 180 million poor black people earning less than a $1 a day. And in that they saw an injustice - but 90% didn't even complete high school. In any case, so the territorial expansion of white leaders, colonies and companies, some by force and some by friendly assimilation carried on. And the bottom line is: black people resisted it and whites were blamed for all the ills on the continent. Then in 20th century, the USSR started funding millions of guerrilla fighters with AK47s and they eventually overthrew all the colonial governments. But that message that the whites are the cause of all the unhappiness has remained and the black people murder the whites. The whites never killed many people. The only 3 countries where there was major killing was Kenya, Namibia and Zimbabwe. But the unrest caused by Marxist black guerrillas that killed millions in Africa, that message of oppression and socialism that was spread by the USSR remains: the poor must overthrow the rich and institute communism or socialism. Their people are uneducated, wild and struggle to control their population growth. The poor believe they must drive the farmers from the land to be rich. This is the desperate situation: ignorance and a lack of education, morals, values and money, jobs.
Robert, you are a brave man for even addressing the topic. I do not know what is worse, being ignored or the facts being denied. It is however clear that a pattern of behavior has been established. You can also test it yourself. Find information on a murder and then try and confirm it with the investigating officers as a journalist. Apart from that, the corruption of statistics brought the murder rate down, not a reduction in the murder rate. When you look at the denial steps on Genocide Watch you can clearly see the steps are being followed as reflected. As part of the community classified as a myth, I can assure you, we are very much real and now part of an international network.
Your article devoted the major quotes to two left-wing Dutch journalists/academics with obvious political agendas of their own. In the future, it might be of help to get out of the prevailing Western-left-journalistic echo chamber and actually do some real reporting for a change.
There are numerous blogs and sites all over the Internet that track the ensuing Afrikanner genocide, with extensive albeit gruesome photographic support. A few minutes' worth of googling would have uncovered them. But instead, you chose to unquestioningly take the word of two left-wing "experts" who both have an obvious apologetics agenda.
I agree with the poster who said that your article not only whitewashed the horror, it actually seems to make fun of the victims--or at least, the quotes attributed to your two left-wing biased sources seem to do that.
