Afghan opposition considers election boycott

Published on 31 October 2009 - 10:06am
More about:

Afghan opposition leader Abdullah Abdullah says he is considering boycotting the second round of voting in the presidential elections.

He says he has no confidence in the measures introduced to prevent a repeat of the electoral fraud which invalidated the first round and regards it as a pointless to continue. The first round of voting was marred by widespread fraud in favour of President Hamid Karzai.

Dr Abdullah is expected to make a final announcement this weekend about his plans.
