The Trimbos Institute for Mental Health and Addiction says that the number of people addicted to the drug GHB is rising. The Amsterdam-based institute is saying that the risks of the drug are seriously underestimated.
A couple of hundred GHB addicts are undergoing treatment in addiction clinics. This may be a relatively small number, the Trimbos institute says, but it is rising fast.
Ingesting even a small quantity of GHB is enough to make the user fall into a comatose state. Users see this as a harmless side-effect, but they do not realise that someone in that condition can choke on his own tongue or vomit, the institute says.
GHB, which is short for gamma-hydroxybutyrate, is a central nervous system depressant, originally used as an anaesthetic. It is a liquid, usually taken orally.

The easiness of taking this drug is obviously a large contributing factor to its popularity. I think it has taken a while for Drug Treatment techniques to deal with this particular drug to improve but they are gradually getting results in drug rehabs.
