9/11: A South Asian point of view

Published on : 9 September 2011 - 6:33pm | By Devi Boerema (Photo: Lisa Williams)
More about:

Ten years ago time stood still for the people of New York.  But the attack on the World Trade Center left deep scars with people all over the world. Most of us remember vividly where we were and what we did on September 11th 2001. The images of those two towers falling down are entrenched in our collective memory. However, when the dust cleared we all continued to live our lives in a post-9/11 world. For some of us, that world has changed immensely, while others have moved on with ease.

We’ve asked three people from the South Asian continent to share their views on the 9/11 terror attacks and has it changed their own country?

Mayank Shekhar: journalist and film critic “ A lot of Hindi movies have looked at the impact of terrorism in India itself, which is much older than 9/11 for India"

Humayoun Khan: research analyst, specialises in US - Pakistan relations "Everyone now says that we were happy in Pakistan, but trust me I didn’t see a single happy person that night"

Rezwan: blogger and NGO worker “In Bangladesh we have a lot of people with Muslim names, after 9/11 it’s very hard for them to get a visa””
