Boys are dangling from a canalside railing, women are waltzing at a wedding party, Jewish traders display their modest wares on the Waterloo Square market. They're seen in pictures sharing the Amsterdam cityscape, past and present, as a backdrop.
Amsterdam's city archive is hosting an exhibition of 150 such photos showing the Dutch capital and its citizens, taken between 1935 and 2005. Many famous Amsterdam photographers are represented, such as Maria Austria, Paul Huf, Philip Mechanicus and Sem Presser.

Great pictures-- the one of the boys running looks like so many fotos I have of my Dad (en Amsterdammer) BTW my captions were in English..
Actually the fact that I like the snaps was the very first think I wrote.
Gerry,
Don't be a dick, learn some basic Dutch. It's not that hard to figure it out.
Ashleigh,
GREAT Photos! I could hardly recognize Liedseplein from 1965. It has really changed over the years.
Beautiful photography. Loved the dancers and the Jewish wedding too.
Lovely pictures, especially the one that features the Olympic athlete!
Wonderful pictures. Don't really know what they're about as all of the captions are in Dutch, indicating this slide show wasn't exactly put together with your English speaking web visitors in mind. Also, if the title was meant to be some kind of play on words, it doesn't really work. Sorry guys, but I want you to pander to me and people like me as professionally as possible.
Hi Gerry,
Thanks for your comment. As you can see, the slideshow now has English captions - the Dutch version was mistakenly put up last night.
Sorry you're not a fan of the title.
I'm curious though, did you like the photos?
Cheers,
Ashleigh
Actually, the fact that I like the pictures is the first part of my remarks.
