At least 35 children have died in a fire at a crèche in the northwestern town of Hermosillo in Mexico. There were 142 children in the government-run crèche when the fire broke out. Dozens of children have been admitted to hospital after inhaling poisonous fumes.

The fire broke out in a neighbouring industrial property where car tyres were stored. The roof of the crèche caved in. The authorities say there could be more victims in the rubble.
