At least 31 children have died in a fire at a crèche in the northwestern town of Hermosillo in Mexico. There were more than 70 children in the crèche when the fire broke out. Dozens of children have been admitted to hospital after inhaling poisonous fumes.

The fire broke out in a neighbouring industrial property where car tyres were stored. The roof of the crèche caved in. The authorities believe more children could be trapped under the rubble.
