20 killed in Rawalpindi attacks

Published on 2 November 2009 - 9:26am
More about:

A bomb attack in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi has claimed the lives of at least 20 people.

A suicide bomber on a motorcycle set off his explosives in the car park of the Shalimar hotel near Mall Road where many of the city's major hotels are located. Responsibility for the attack has not yet been claimed.

The Pakistani government is offering a total of five million US dollars as a reward for those who help capture - dead or alive - Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud and 18 other Taliban leaders.

The United Nations has announced that all foreign UN workers will be withdrawn from northwestern Pakistan effective immediately. It is not clear how many people will be affected, but the number of foreign UN personnel in the region is limited.
