Published on 15 November 2009 - 9:13pm
More about:

Dutch swimmer Hinkelien Schreuder has broken a world record in the women's 100 metres individual medley at the world championships in Berlin.

Her time 57.54 seconds was six tenths of a second faster than the old record held by Chinese swimmer Zhao Jing.

In all 16 records were broken at the Berlin meeting, which is in itself a record. Almost all the world record breakers were wearing hi-tech swimsuits which are due to be banned on 1 January.
