In the southern Philippines, another 13 victims of Monday's massacre have been discovered in a mass grave. This brings the death toll in the violence to 35. The victims were among 40 people abducted by a group of armed men.
The people abducted were supporters and family members of a local politician and a group of journalists. The authorities are assuming that the abduction and killings are the work of a rival politician in the predominantly Muslim province of Maguindano.
A state of emergency has been declared in the region, which gives the army and police the power to impose an evening curfew. A senior police official has been dismissed because a number of policemen from his force are thought to be involved in the massacre.
