A 125-year-old woman found living in Turkey could be the oldest person ever recorded.
The director of the registry office in Besiri, a Kurdish village in southeastern Turkey, says Halime Somaz was born on 1 July 1884. It remains to be seen if her age can be verified, as public records from the Ottoman empire are incomplete. Until now the oldest person ever recorded was Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 at the age of 122 years and 164 days.
